Why Breast Health Matters

🎯 1 in 13

women in Singapore is likely to be diagnosed with breast cancer during her lifetime

🧬 90%

of women diagnosed with breast cancer have no known family history, reminding us that breast health is important for everyone

📅 Breast Health Starts Young

While most women diagnosed with breast cancer are between 40 and 59 years old, diagnoses among younger women are increasing.

Today, 1 in 6 breast cancer cases occur in women under the age of 40, and it is also associated with more aggressive biology being enriched for triple-negative, HER2-positive and luminal B subtypes.

Awareness starts with knowing your own body.

👟 Healthy lifestyle habits

like exercise, limiting alcohol, and yes, breastfeeding, can all help reduce risk of breast cancer.

Get to Know Your Breasts

Early detection saves lives

For women below 40 years old, performing a monthly breast self-examination is recommended to help you become familiar with what is normal for your body and identify any unusual changes early. Early detection and referral to your General Practitioner for assessment and treatment can improve survival outcomes.

Breastfeeding and Breast Cancer

Breastfeeding is one of the many ways mothers nurture their babies, but did you know it may also benefit your own long-term breast health?

Research suggests that breastfeeding can help reduce a woman's lifetime risk of breast cancer by reducing exposure to hormones associated with increased breast cancer risk.

Whether you nurse directly or express milk using a breast pump, every drop counts not just to nourish your little one but also to prevent breast cancer.

At Hegen, we're proud to support mothers throughout their breastfeeding journey because caring for your baby should also mean caring for yourself.

Small Actions for Meaningful Impact

Looking after your breast health doesn't have to be complicated

👩‍⚕️ Prioritise regular screenings

Women aged 20–39 should perform monthly breast self-examinations. Women aged 40 and above should attend regular mammogram screenings according to medical recommendations.

🤱 Breastfeed whenever possible

Breastfeeding may reduce lifetime exposure to hormones linked to breast cancer risk, contributing to long-term protection.

🏃 Adopt healthy lifestyle habits

Staying active, maintaining a healthy weight and limiting alcohol consumption may help reduce breast cancer risk.

🧠 Share what you've learnt

Raising awareness encourages more women to detect breast cancer early and seek timely treatment.
