Straw Cups

Whilst there is no specific period to wean your child from a feeding bottle, we would recommend introducing the Straw Cup from 9 months of age. Introducing a Straw Cup at this age may assist in preventing tooth decay and is the first step towards teaching your child how to sip and eventually drink from a normal cup.

We would recommend using the Straw Cup for beverages <40°C and non-carbonated drinks only. This is because beverages >40°C and carbonated drinks may cause some liquid to escape from the Upper Straw due to the build-up of air pressure.

This is to ensure the safety of your little ones during feeding as liquids tend to travel faster when warmed and could potentially cause scalding from the hot liquid.

To wash the Hegen Straw Cup, start by disassembling all parts before washing. This ensures that each component can be cleaned thoroughly and helps reduce the chances of mould forming due to trapped moisture or residue.

Steps to clean:

1. Disassemble all parts – Remove the spout, upper straw, lower straw, and grey replacement seal.
2. Washing – Use undiluted baby bottle detergent and gently wash all parts using a bottle brush.
3. Straw Washing – Use a straw brush and undiluted baby bottle detergent to wash the inner straw thoroughly to remove any residue.
4. Rinse well – Ensure all soap is completely rinsed off with clean water.
5. Allow to air dry – Place all parts on a clean drying rack and allow them to air dry completely before reassembling.
